ECE 697O: Real-Time Systems

Instructor: C.M. Krishna.

               Test 1 .......................................20%
               Test 2 .......................................20%
Final Examination (after the last lecture).....30%
               Paper and presentation.........................15%
               Homework.......................................15%
The final exam will be cumulative. Tests 1 and 2 will be 75 minutes long, and the final will take 2 hours.

You will be asked to pick some topic in real-time systems and write a brief survey on it. Towards the end of the semester, students will make presentations of their surveys in class. This will provide useful practice in preparing and delivering technical presentations.

One problem students often have with picking topics for their presentation is that they only get to know enough about the subject more than halfway through the semester. To get around this problem, I propose to front-load the lectures in this course. I am planning to give 3 lectures per week (Tue/Wed/Thurs) for the first few weeks to give you a more rapid introduction to the subject. I have used this approach before, in a course on algorithms, and it proved to be useful. Note that the total number of lectures will be no greater than if we follow the traditional 2 lectures/week format: it is just that more of the lectures will be held earlier in the semester to help you in picking a topic for your survey article and presenting it in class.
